When it comes to gift giving and getting, electronics are far and away the big cheese. Whether they’re for remote control cars, power tools or flashlights, batteries are the last-minute stuffer no stocking should be without. The question then, for the practical energy conscious person is: What batteries are cheap enough to toss and not hassle with recharging, but responsible enough to not harm the environment? Answer: The Eco Alkalines eco-responsible batteries of course!
There really are so many Green features and impressive attributes to highlight about these environmentally-responsible-yet-disposable batteries, here’s our breakdown:
1. These environmental batteries are made of 98% recycled material and boast a leak-resistant seal. This means that while it’s still advisable to recycle these batteries once they die, if for the principle of it, these eco-responsible batteries are certified earth friendly and landfill safe by U.S. and Canadian Environmental Protection Agencies.
2. Eco Alkalines are also formulated for extended life. This means they perform well in comparison to market-leading brands and their quality is on par with big-name batteries. Translation: They won’t die after the first use. In fact, Eco Alkalines will likely last as long as you’d expect any drum-beating bunny to last.
3. There is no lead, mercury or cadmium in the Eco Alkalines. That’s 0%, zilch, nada, none. No harmful metals for humans or the environment in these batteries is, in the battery world as well as the natural world, a big deal.
4. Another Green attribute is that Eco Alkalines are certified by Carbonfund.org, and carry the distinction of being the only carbon neutral batteries in the world.

Greetings Energy Conscious Community,
We’ve launched our Plant-a-Tree program and want to tell you about it. Check out our press release below that we sent to nearly every environmental organization and news outlet in the country. And click here to learn more about our Plant-a-Tree initiative.
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Energy Efficiency Start-up Launches Environmental Program for Shoppers
Washington D.C. — The Energy Conscious, a rapidly growing e-marketplace for energy efficient and sustainable products launched its “Plant-a-Tree” initiative — a sustainability-based corporate social responsibility partnership with American Forests® and its Global ReLeaf® program.
“Plant-a-Tree” represents the commitment by The Energy Conscious to donate a tree through American Forests every time a customer purchases $100 or more of its efficient, renewable and sustainable products.
“There’s no limit to how many trees will be planted with American Forests,” said Nabil Estefan, founder and CEO of The Energy Conscious, “the more clients purchase, the more they participate in the planting of new trees and the positive consequence “Plant-a-Tree” has on the environment.”
The initiative’s charitable partner, American Forests, is the country’s oldest national conservation non-profit that, with the help of corporate partners, has planted more than 42 million trees since 1990.
“Plant-a-Tree” is a major step toward implementing a proactive social responsibility program that fits The Energy Conscious’ slogan of “My Money, My Planet” and broadly contributes to sustainable reforestation efforts throughout the United States.
“American Forests applauds the leadership role that The Energy Conscious is taking in promoting the importance of forests to its customers,” said Lea Sloan, VP of communications and marketing. “Forests are the most important land-based ecosystem in preserving the health of our planet, including helping to moderate the impact of climate change.”
Already laser-focused on offering a consumer experience rooted in saving money, energy and the environment, Mr. Estefan noted that planting trees was a natural extension of The Energy Conscious’ brand to more deliberately reduce its customers’ carbon footprint even further.
“No other retailer that we have seen in this industry has this integrated of a giving program with their sales and products,” Mr. Estefan said, “Our Plant-a-Tree initiative seeks to develop the kind of ethical practice that is a hallmark of every great company concerned with the environment in which it operates.”
The Energy Conscious has led the charge to create a new marketplace for the energy conscious, do-it-yourself community—forging partnerships with the internationally recognized ENERGY STAR program and the US Environmental Protection Agency’s WaterSense initiative—while seeking to become a one-stop-shop for green developers and eco-oriented builders.
“We couldn’t be more excited and proud about this program which bolsters our focus on selling products that save energy and water at highly competitive prices while in the process reducing our customers’ carbon footprint,” Mr. Estefan said.
The P3 Kill A Watt is a simple, low-cost energy efficiency product that lets you know which of your electronic devices are costing you unnecessary money by measuring their energy usage.
OK, that’s what it is technically speaking, but honestly, the P3 Kill A Watt is like a pocket-sized Ninja with a mission to save on energy and help make yours an energy efficient home. This product monitors wattage, amps, volts, line frequencies (Hz) and power factor (VA). Knowing this information informs you on adjustments you can make to pinpoint wasted power, eliminate it and therefore reduce your electric bill and increase your energy savings.
And people love it. One online reviewer spent a year to organize all the data he assembled from the P3 Kill A Watt P4400 into spreadsheets with equations that yielded massive amounts of data to discover that his major energy waster was his desktop computer he kept plugged in and rarely powered off. The energy efficiency tip to takeaway here is to save yourself the spreadsheet labor, and use the P3 Kill A Watt to check your own computers, appliances and other electric devices in your home of office.
Another energy efficient tip with this product would be to use it as a check for your Energy Star products and other energy efficient brands to see if they are actually as cost effective as you’d expect or if the energy use as shown on the Kill A Watt matches what your energy efficient appliance promised.
All in all, this low-cost affordable energy product packs a heavy punch and is easily the best $20-odd dollars you’ll invest for efficient energy in your home.
All across the country people are raking their lawns, caulking their windows, prepping their yards for next season and weatherizing their homes for the coming cold.
And you know what? They’re smart. According the Energy Star, sealing or insulating the walls, ceilings, windows, doors and overall the shell of a house is one of the most cost-effective ways to save on energy and is a best practice on how to be energy efficient. Effective insulation and sealing is estimated to save up to 20% on heating (and cooling) costs. Put another way, according to the U.S. Dept. of Energy, “weatherization efforts bring a return $1.83 in direct energy savings to the homeowner for every $1 spent on weatherization.” That’s huge!
What’s that you say? Of course we have energy efficiency tips to get you started! We also have some great products that will help you save on energy costs and prevent the loss of wasted resources in heating your home. There is 20% energy savings to be had!
Touch ‘n Seal makes fantastic products that help insulate the home and save on energy. Both the foam and the application gun are available (and on sale!) at The Energy Conscious. just click any of the pictures here to go to the site, learn more and shop around.
A great investment to really insulate your home with another Touch ‘n Seal energy efficient product is the spray foam for walls. It’s a two-part polyurethane mix that is perfect for adding an interior layer of insulation in an attic or storage room.
Check out the video below for a quick visual demonstration on using the spray foam. It’s clear to see how this can be an effective solution to creating a more energy efficient home. FYI, when you order this product from The Energy Conscious, you can save over $80 and get free shipping.
ENERGY EFFICIENCY TIP: Before you foam, caulk. Filling any cracks or holes with caulk prior to spraying the foam will increase your energy savings capacity and create an energy efficient insulation that will last a very long time.

Halloween season is here. It’s the holiday that takes place at night, so naturally we have all your energy efficient lighting needs from personal renewable energy flashlights to trapse around the neighborhood with, to solar-powered energy efficient flood lights to make your home and yard welcoming and safe for all the Trick-or-Treaters looking for a sweet fix. We even have an assortment of energy efficient night lights to keep the little ones safe in their beds from the visions of spookiness that dance in their heads.
Bottom line is this: The Energy Conscious has everything you need to make your Halloween energy efficient and fun.
Halloween doesn’t have to be the season of dollar-store single-use flashlights and piles of batteries—although we do have an array of green energy ECO-Alkaline batteries, which we’ll discuss in further detail in a future post.
But, our array of self-powered LED flashlights like the Freeplay Kito™ Lanterns are perfect for the supervising adult with the Trick-or-Treat bunch. Safety and Energy Efficiency is such a perfect combination it’s scary.
Speaking of LED, consider our Sylvania DOT-it lamps that can be stuck anywhere. They’re perfect for making energy efficient Jack-o-Lanterns or lighting a dark corner. With LED bulbs that will literally last for tens of thousands of hours, these stick-anywhere lamps are a valuable investment for many years (and many Halloweens) to come.
It’s important on Halloween night to make your home welcoming for any candy-hungry ghoul or goblin that comes to your door. An energy efficient house doesn’t have to be a dark one. Light up your front yard or the whole side of your house with this powerful Gama Sonic Solar Spot Light. It’s solar and lasts for 10 hours after a full day’s charge. That’s renewable energy!
Or let Halloween be the excuse to finally invest in decorative pathway lights that also harness the renewable energy of the sun with their solar capacity and brilliant, wireless ease. Just another energy efficient solution to additional lighting needs.
Finally, keep Halloween from getting too scary with energy efficient night lights that keep watch over things that go bump in the night, including stubbing toes on the way to the loo.
Have a safe, energy conscious Halloween with these energy efficient products and energy saving ideas, oh and just some general, sound advice: don’t over-do it on the candy.
That’s right, October is Energy Awareness month. Seriously, we looked into it. It’s way more official than National Cupcake Day, or the dreaded Talk-Like-A-Pirate day. Here is a little history for that curious part of you that is dying to know when and why October was chosen as the month where being focused on energy efficiency and energy savings is a federally recognized event.
From the good folks over at EnergyStar:
October has been Energy Awareness Month since a presidential proclamation in 1991. For more than 15 years, government organizations — in partnership with businesses, associations, and concerned citizens — have observed this month with activities and programs to promote public understanding of our energy needs and to reduce energy consumption in our everyday lives.
October is a great time to get started on the path toward energy savings —
Well, we simply have to agree. At The Energy Conscious, we know it literally pays to save on energy. In honor of Energy Awareness Month, many of our energy efficient and sustainable products are on sale with special promotional codes you can access when you ‘like’ us on Facebook.
It’s Fall, the seasons are changing and it’s a good time to be energy conscious, aware and of heaters, air conditioners, lawns, lights, and house weatherization. Let us help! At The Energy Conscious, we also have green energy products, hundreds of EnergyStar certified products (we are an official partner) and some terrific energy-saving ideas you can download (or just read from our Twitter at @enerconscious.
Welcome to our blog!
We’re excited to engage on this platform with all of you who are part of the rapidly growing world of energy efficiency.
Let us introduce ourselves.
At The Energy Conscious we are quickly establishing our brand as a social marketplace of earth-conscious consumers where everyone from do-it-yourselfers to builders and developers can find high-quality products that are energy efficient, water efficient and cost efficient. That’s three efficients!
After the financial crisis of 2008, our founder, former CFO of Pepsi Co. Nabil Estefan, saw an opportunity amid the meltdown–a way to encourage homeowners and home builders to embrace energy efficient products that are good for the environment and that reduce energy costs.
The idea of The Energy Conscious was born out of the conviction that there should be a place to get products that save energy without being so expensive as to hardly make what you save on energy bill worth the investment. At The Energy Conscious, our Energy Star products, green products and other sustainable and renewable energy products are affordable and easy to browse.
Capitalizing on the ease and power of the Internet, The Energy Conscious is an eCommerce site for affordable, energy efficient products. What started as a part-time experiement by a passionate businessman has suddenly grown into a company of rapidly increasing sales and a rising demand for its products and services.
We want to promote a world-wide culture that is passionate about using innovative products and technology in new as well as existing infrastruc
ture with the goal to reduce CO2 emissions and save money on smart, energy efficient consumption.
It’s strange to think that saving money is a higher priority now than before but penny-pinching on electric bills and careful monitoring of resource consumption are important concepts gaining in popularity now more than ever.
It is in this dawn of a renewed financial cautiousness, we proudly encourage a harmonious energy consciousness.
In this blog we will offer energy saving ideas, we’ll answer questions like “what is energy efficiency” and give tips on what is energy efficient, how to be energy efficient and most importantly, how to save on energy.
We seek to align ourselves with a group of people who care about being responsible consumers, reducing their energy costs and caring for the planet in reasonable but effective ways.
As we grow into a vast one-stop shop for energy efficiency and Energy Star products, TEC will lead the charge in affordably adopting energy-saving prodcuts and techniques that reduce cost for consumers and improve the well-being of our earth.
